Literacy Ambassadors support United Way of West Tennessee's literacy initiatives by helping maintain community book access points, assisting with literacy-focused events, and promoting a love of reading throughout our service area. This is an active, primarily outdoor volunteer role with flexible opportunities available during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Visit and maintain assigned Little Free Libraries by checking inventory, organizing books, and restocking as needed.
- Monitor the condition of Little Free Libraries and report any maintenance concerns.
- Assist with WOW Wagon events and other literacy outreach activities.
- Help distribute books and literacy materials to children and families.
- Represent United Way of West Tennessee in a positive and professional manner at community events.
- Support additional literacy initiatives and volunteer opportunities as they arise.
Qualifications
- Passion for literacy, education, and community engagement.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes of books and materials (up to 25 pounds preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Requirements
- Some volunteer assignments require a background check.
- Reliable transportation is preferred.
- Availability may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Attend one orientation training a year (inperson or virtual).
