To provide short-term, neighbor-to-neighbor assistance to elderly community members and individuals with disabilities who need help clearing snow and ice from walkways, steps, driveways, and entry points to reduce fall risks during winter weather.
- Shoveling snow from sidewalks, steps, and driveways
- Clearing safe walking paths to front doors or mailboxes
- Individuals physically able to shovel snow and work outdoors in cold conditions
- Volunteers 18 years or older
- Volunteers who are comfortable working independently or with a partner
- Snow and ice removal involves inherent risks, including slips, falls, muscle strain, and exposure to cold weather
- Volunteers are not employees and are not covered by workers’ compensation
- Volunteers assume full responsibility for their own safety during participation
- The organizing entity is not liable for injuries, accidents, or property damage that may occur during volunteer activities
- Wear appropriate winter clothing and non-slip footwear
- Use their own judgment to determine when conditions are unsafe
- Decline any assignment they do not feel comfortable completing
- Connection to elderly community members and individuals with disabilities requesting assistance
- General guidance on tasks requested
